A delicious savory cake combining creamy yogurt, cheddar cheese, and pasta for a comforting and unique dish.

Ingredients

Dairy and Eggs

  • 1 1/4 cups plain yogurt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
  • pinch cayenne

Dry Goods

  • 1 cup self-rising flour (or all-purpose flour plus baking powder)
  • 2 tablespoons self-rising flour (or all-purpose flour plus baking powder)
  • 6 ounces grated cheddar cheese (divided (5 oz. for batter, 1 oz. for top))
  • 2 tablespoons sliced green onions (plus more for garnish)

Pasta

  • 1 cup dry elbow macaroni
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/4 cup reserved pasta water (not shown in video)

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease an 8-inch or 9-inch cake pan and line with parchment.
  • Whisk yogurt, eggs, salt, pepper, sugar, and cayenne. Mix in flour and 5 oz. cheddar cheese. Add green onions and combine.
  • Cook pasta until tender, drain, and reserve 1/4 cup pasta water. Mix melted butter, pasta, and water into batter.
  • Pour batter into prepared pan, top with remaining cheese and cayenne. Bake for 25 minutes until lightly browned.
  • Serve hot or warm, garnished with green onions.

Notes

Use freshly grated cheese for best flavor. Serve immediately for optimal texture.
