A quick and hearty one-pan dinner combining seasoned ground beef and tender potatoes, topped with melted cheese for a satisfying meal.

  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1.5 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1.5 teaspoons kosher salt, divided
  • 1.5 teaspoons granulated garlic
  • 1.5 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1.5 pounds Russet potatoes, chopped into ½ inch cubes (or Yukon gold)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 Tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 Tablespoons ketchup
  • 0.75 cup sharp cheddar cheese, grated

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Cook ground beef with 1 teaspoon oil and half the salt, garlic, onion powder, and paprika until browned, 5-8 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  • Add 1 teaspoon oil and potatoes to the same pan, season with remaining salt and spices, cook 1 minute until fragrant.
  • Add water, cover, and simmer until potatoes are tender, 15-20 minutes. Add more water if sticking occurs.
  • Return beef to pan, stir in mustard, Worcestershire, and ketchup. Add more water if needed. Top with cheese and bake 5 minutes until melted.

Notes

For a quicker meal, skip preheating the oven and serve directly from the stovetop.
