A hearty and cheesy pasta bake featuring Italian sausage, fresh herbs, and melted mozzarella, perfect for a comforting family dinner.

Ingredients

Pasta

  • 1 pound pounds penne pasta
  • 2 tablespoons tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 pound pounds Italian sausage
  • 1 cup cups onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon tablespoon garlic, minced
  • 4 cups cups tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 cup cups Parmesan cheese, freshly grated, divided
  • 1/4 cup cups fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup cups fresh basil, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon teaspoon ground black pepper (or to taste)
  • 3 cups cups fresh mozzarella cheese, shredded

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Cook pasta in salted boiling water until al dente, then drain.
  • Cook sausage in olive oil until browned, then add onions and garlic, sauté until soft.
  • Stir in tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, Parmesan, parsley, basil, salt, and pepper; simmer 5-7 minutes.
  • Combine pasta with sauce, layer in a casserole dish, top with mozzarella and Parmesan, then bake 25 minutes until golden.

Notes

Let the baked pasta rest for 15 minutes before serving for best results.
