A delicious and easy smash burger topped with a perfectly fried egg. This recipe combines the crispy edges of a smash burger with the richness of a runny egg yolk.

Ingredients

Burger Ingredients

  • 4 oz Ground Beef (80/20)
  • 1 Hamburger Bun
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 slice Cheese (cheddar, American, or your choice)
  • 1 tbsp Butter
  • to taste Salt and Pepper

Optional Toppings

  • to taste Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Pickles, Ketchup, Mustard, Mayo

Instructions 

  • Form ground beef into a loose ball.
  • Heat a cast iron skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
  • Place the beef ball on the hot surface and smash it flat with a sturdy spatula or burger press.
  • Season with salt and pepper.
  • Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until a crust forms on the bottom.
  • Scrape the burger from the surface and flip it over.
  • Top with cheese and cook for another minute until the cheese is melted.
  • While the burger is cooking, melt butter in a separate pan and fry the egg to your desired doneness. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Toast the hamburger bun.
  • Place the burger on the bottom bun, top with the fried egg, and add any desired toppings.
  • Cover with the top bun and serve immediately.

Notes

For an extra crispy burger, use a very hot skillet and don't move the burger until a crust has formed.
