This creamy, flavorful butter chicken is quick to prepare and perfect for a comforting meal. Enjoy tender chicken in a rich tomato and cream sauce.

Ingredients

Meat

  • 1 lb boneless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces

Dairy

  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 cup heavy cream

Spices & Condiments

  • 2 teaspoons garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 4 tablespoons butter

Vegetables

  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated

Canned & Jarred Goods

  • 1 can tomato puree (15 oz)

Other

  • salt to taste salt

Instructions 

  • Mix yogurt, lemon juice, spices, and marinate chicken for 30 minutes.
  • Sauté onions in 2 tbsp butter until golden. Add garlic and ginger, cook 1 minute.
  • Add marinated chicken and cook until browned. Stir in tomato puree and reserved marinade, simmer 15 minutes.
  • Reduce heat, stir in heavy cream and remaining butter, cook 5 minutes until thickened.
  • Season with salt, garnish with cilantro, and serve with rice or naan.

Notes

For a milder flavor, reduce chili powder; for extra richness, add more cream.
