Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes

A creamy, cheesy dish featuring tender sliced potatoes baked to perfection with a rich sauce and topped with herbs.

Ingredients

Potatoes

  • 1 kg potatoes (enough to fill the dish)
  • 1 cup mozzarella (shredded or chopped)
  • 3/4 cup cheddar
  • 1 cup cream
  • 1.5 cups milk
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • to taste salt
  • to taste black pepper
  • Parsley or dill garnish

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Butter a baking dish.
  • Peel (optional) and thinly slice potatoes; layer in dish.
  • In a saucepan, melt butter, whisk in flour, then add milk and cream. Season and simmer until thickened.
  • Add cheese, stir until melted. Pour half sauce over potatoes, cover with foil, and bake 30 minutes.
  • Remove foil, pour remaining sauce, bake another 60 minutes until golden and tender.
  • Garnish with parsley and serve hot.

Notes

For a richer flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg or paprika to the sauce.
